The reason of popularity of this is its not very costly and also not so much time taking and most important it’s very easy to use. But as everyone knows where there is good, there is some bad things also. And Angioplasty is not any exception. While its very good for heart patients it also has some side effects which we are going to see below.
One of the main problem of which is involved in angioplasty is that of tearing or bursting of the artery due to unsustainably high pressure. And this is the reason of total blockage and could lead to heart attack. And this is the clot of blood which causes the artery blocked leading to possibility of stroke.
Sometimes the side effects of angioplasty are kidney problem. As we know that X-rays uses iodine contrast dye which is harmful for kidney. To a large extent the treatment for this is to provide the patient intravenous fluids and medications before and after the procedure. Another risk of Angioplasty is abnormal heartbeat which is also not good for heart patient. In this procedure its believed to be the cause of heart attacks in 3 to 5 % of the patients. When such situation arises, in such cases emergency bypass surgery of the coronary artery is performed.
Another side effects of angioplasty is Restenosis. Restenosis means slow re-narrowing of the blood vessels within next few days after performing Angioplasty. Although the exact cause is still a shroud of cloud but the experts say that blood clots occurring at or near the site of treatment could be the cause of restenosis.
Mainly the side effects are seen in the elderly patients rather than relatively the younger ones the elder ones.
Also as compared to men, women are at a greater risk of encountering complications. But the good things is that almost all side effects are curable and death rates of angioplasty is hardly is 0.1%.
