| Scentsy is a Wickless candle company that has been in business since 2004. The company was founded by Kara Egan and Collette Gunell; two stay at home moms who were looking for a safe alternative to flamed candles. They began making the product in their basement and marketing it at Event Expos. Orville Thompson, an entrepreneur from Boise, ID happened to be selling at the same expo in Sandy, UT and saw the product there. He was intrigued by the idea of a flameless candle warmer that used a low wattage light bulb to melt the scented wax. Orville and Heidi Thompson decided to purchase the company in July 2004. After looking at many ways to market this unique product, they decided to make the company a direct sales, party plan company. They put together an excellent compensation plan and started recruiting consultants.
In the beginning, each Scentsy bar was hand poured by mostly family of Orville and Heidi. They ran their new business out of a 40 foot shipping container that was located on their sheep farm.
