| Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a 1,800 acre wildlife preserve open to the public. It features many different species of animals, including emus, giraffes, zebras, wolves, and many others. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is the first facility of its kind to have been attributed by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center participates in a worldwide network of wildlife protection organizations working to re-establish the weak balance between people, animals, and the environment.
Visitors can take a self-guided 10-mile scenic drive in Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and watch more than 1000 animals (except the rhinos and carnivores) roam free across 1500 acres of wooded hills and grassy savannas and enjoy seeing deer, ostriches, zebras, giraffes, 'up close and personal' and can even feed the animals. (Expect some bold begging, such as giraffe noses through the car windows.) They allow a minimum of two hours to do the drive. Binoculars and animal food are available at the Visitors Center in Fossil Rim Wildlife Center.
Similarly one can also enjoy Dinosaur World which is conveniently located in Glen Rose, Texas just immediately in front of Dinosaur Valley State Park, which lies a little more than 1 hour from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. In Dinosaur World you can watch:
• The forests of Dinosaur World - has over 150 life size dinosaur models in a lush natural setting. The dinosaurs represent a variety of well known and unusual species, which are displayed outdoors with explanatory signs.
• Fossil Dig- Search for authentic fossils in a paleontological setting.
• Museum- Stroll through a dinosaur museum with everything from dinosaur eggs to raptor claws.
• Playground- Children can enjoy their play in playground.
• Picnic Area- They do not offer food service, but we do encourage bringing picnic type lunches for your students.
• Caves- At the “Caves” you can see a video theatre, subterranean picnic area, displays and more in a unique setting.
• Gift Shop- One can stroll through fossils, dinosaur eggs, educational materials, books, toys, artifacts and more.
