| Richard Gere is undoubtedly one of the most desirable and sexy men in Hollywood and there comes no surprise when People Magazine voted him the sexiest man alive when he was 50. Sexiness be it of any kind lies in the eyes of the beholder, and Gere’s sexuality and sensuality has plenty of admirers (even celebrity admirers). In a recent interview the Oscar-winning actress Hillary Swank said that she could kiss Gere all day.
The free-spirited and bohemian Lancelot, super cute lovelorn corporate honcho Edward Lewis or the big-city reporter Ike Graham, Gere has done it again and again! May be that can explain why women cringe at the mere mention of his name. It won’t be wrong to say that Richard Gere has a hypnotic effect on his audience (men and women alike) and the reason cannot be merely his drop-dead gorgeous looks. He has something more than those looks! And what’s that? Well, one can’t deny his uber-acting skills. Gere has proven himself to be a versatile actor since first starring as a psycho-swinger in Looking For Mr Goodbar. Capable of playing everything from mushy, romantic leads to medieval knights, power-packed action heroes and merciless anti-hero, Gere is undeniably one of the enduring actors that the world of movies has seen.
Richard Gere is definitely a man of different colors. Once a wild party animal, the “Pretty Woman” actor has embraced Buddhism and shares a very close kinship with the Dalai Lama. This high-profile Hollywood stud frequently attends His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s religious discourse at various places.
His association with the Dalai Lama dates back to the early 1980s. Richard Gere became one of the founders of Tibet House, a non-profit organisation that works with the mission to preserve Tibetan culture. He has also worked for many other humanitarian causes. During the wars in El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua in the early 1980s Gere traveled with a doctor throughout the war-affected Latin America visiting refugee camps. He believes that the plight of the people out there made him politically motivated. "That did as much to change my political, social and spiritual thinking as anything in my life," Gere says. "That was deeply powerful to me." He is a supporter of Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
He has also been actively involved in Survival International, which works for tribal people to help them protect their land and rights. He’s also an active HIV activist and finding ways to combat AIDS has also been one of Gere’s priorities. Richard has supported many organizations which are working towards finding a cure for AIDS. |
